Sophie Tucker
jimstet13 January 2005
Sophie Tucker was working in England in 1934, the year of a Command Performance for King George V and Queen Mary. As usual, she was involved in a busy schedule of recording and personal appearances. This time she was asked to appear in a film starring Florence Desmond. Sophie looks stunning in this film and sings four songs, only two of which she ever recorded. These songs are " My Extraordinary Man", "Louisville Lady", "Imagine My Embarrassment" and "Hotcha Joe".I have not seen the entire film but have Sophie Tucker's four songs on video and she is still at the peak of her considerable vocal powers and this is a precious film record of Sophie in her prime. It should also be noted that she is basically uncensored and her routines would never have been allowed in a Hollywood film of this same period.
