Lindbergh would not make his celebrated flight across the Atlantic for another couple of years when this cartoon was released, but everyone was going crazy for the idea of a transatlantic flight -- several had already been made, but not according to the strictures laid down by the prize rules. As a result this was a natural subject for gags and cartoons.
For half the movie, Terry and his staff pushed the limits of what might fly further and further, starting with Al Falfa in a patched dirigible, leading to images of anything that was vaguely balloon-like being able to lift things into the air, including over-inflated auto tires and sausages. That progression makes up about two-thirds of the cartoon until the staff seems to have run out of ideas. The end result is pretty much of a bore, but it never collapses like an over-inflated balloon and you can keep watching it to the end.
