It's in the Box!

Kind of a one note offering. The magician we have gotten used to has a kind of brief case that is magical. A young woman comes out of a folded rug and then is used to test the nature of the box. She stands in it and then disappears inside it. Soon other want into the act. It's just that we keeps seeing the same things. There is nothing earth shattering about this little piece.

aka La Boite a Malice

George Melies plays a magician and with the help of another man he creates a small box, shaped like a suitcase, and magically makes a woman stand in it before disappearing into it. This film from the master filmmaker is a good one in his career, although it's certainly not among his best. You can see how the trick is being done, which takes away some of the fun but this is still a worthy film. As usual, Melies comes off very energetic and his energy really flows through the film. The trick itself is something Melies would do throughout his career but I believe this is the earliest film I've seen it in. Nothing great but worth watching.
