Sue (Mary McCloud) has prepared dinner for her family including her husband John (Todd Waring) and young daughter Meg (Lainee Rhodes) during the Christmas season. Teen age daughter Ann (Nicole McCullough) is late, but the family begins eating. When Ann arrives, she is scolded by her mother. Ann piles a but of food on her plate and leaves the table to eat in her room. John tells Sue it is time to have a talk with Ann. Meg is asked to leave the table by her mother and father. Meg worries that her sister is in trouble but complies with her parents' demand. Ann returns to fill her glass with water. When Ann tries to leave for her room. John insists that she sit at the table so they can talk to her. Ann is seated but says if this is about the baby, there is nothing to talk about. She has decided to keep it. Sue argues that Ann does not realize how a baby will change her life. Ann counters that she will figure it out. Sue said she should not expect that she will receive any help from the family, but John disagrees and says there is no way that can happen because they aren't done raising Ann herself. When Sue asks Ann if she has thought this through, Ann responds in kind. She exclaims that the baby is all that is left of Ryan since his accident. Sue tries to be empathetic about how Ann feels about losing Ryan, but still believes a baby will ruin Ann's life. John accuses Ann of being irresponsible. Ann admits that she made a mistake, but doesn't want to compound it with another mistake. She feels she has made the right decision in deciding to keep the baby despite the potential consequences to her life. Sue insists that Ann's decision effects everyone around her. Ann loses her appetite and tries to leave the table, but John demands she sit back down. Ann asks the family to stay out of her business, but John insists what happens under his roof is his business. Meg eats uncomfortably in her room overhearing the argument that only grow in intensity. John starts to blame himself for giving Ann liberties, trusting her and freedom to make decisions, but now realizes that Ann could not be trusted. John refers to a photo on the wall of himself and Ann and insists that girl would not have brought shame to the family. Meg enters and tries to intercede on Ann's behalf but is quickly ordered to her room. John insults Meg that she doesn't know how to parent a teen daughter. Sue tries to end the conversation, but John's tirade continues. He discusses with Sue how they failed because they trusted Ann to be out and at parties. When Ann interrupts asking John to cease talking like she is not in the room, John responds that she is a child who wants and child and it isn't cute any more like when she was younger. John says it is sad and embarrassing. He leaves the table and accidentally knock a decorated egg to the floor that was on the sideboard. The egg cracks. The yolk spills out.
