Not the best but somewhere in there is Orson Welles as Long John Silver
7 May 2024
This is an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's novel by the same name.

After the death of his father, young Jim Hawkins (Kim Burfield) takes over running the Benbow Inn with his mother (Maria Rohm.) One day an unexpected lodger, Captain Billy Bones (Lionel Stander,) takes refuge there. He has been located by his old shipmates and handed the black spot (the pirate sign of termination) by Blind Pew (Paul Muller.) While retrieving money owed Jim Hawkins comes across a map. The adventure begins.

There have been many versions of this in movie form and plots lifted from other books. However, get ready here it comes, none are as good as the book.

What can I say positive about this version? It has Orson Wells' (1915-1985) name in it. Is adapted for the screen by Orson Wells as O. W. Jeeves. Welles's choice of "O. W. Jeeves" allowed him to maintain some anonymity.

We have all the problems of old timy low budget films. Bad sound quality, bad visuals, a tad of dubbing in some cases, etc.

Long John borrowed hid hat from Agarn of F Troop (1965).

Filming locations: Monte Gelato Falls, Treja River, Lazio, Italy (Admiral Benbow Inn exterior scenes) Rome, Lazio, Italy Cinecittà Studios, Cinecittà, Rome, Lazio, Italy (Studio interior scenes) Mojácar, Almería, Andalucía, Spain (Beach and fort exterior scenes) Carboneras, Almería, Andalucía, Spain Garrucha, Almería, Andalucía, Spain Cuevas del Almanzora, Almería, Andalucía, Spain Águilas, Murcia, Spain Bédar, Almería, Andalucía, Spain Vera, Almería, Andalucía, Spain

Wait, how did this get on the filming list?

Even though this critter has Spain written all over it there is and overpriced Treasure Island (DVD) (1972) (Region 1) (US Import) (NTSC) Do not waste your time trying to find it on any streaming platforms.
