Batman: Scat! Darn Catwoman (1967)
Season 2, Episode 41

THE CATWOMAN AND PUSSYCAT RETURN!
23 March 2024
I TOTALLY agree with the last reviewer. Episodes like this are what made BATMAN on tv. Outrageous and laugh out loud funny. Excellent direction on the part of series director Oscar Rudolph, who later headed many classic episodes for the BRADY BUNCH.

The theme is "mind control." Catwoman (Julie Newmar at her best) is out to snag Batman for her very own slave. True, the relationship between the two is a bit steamy, and had it not been for tv censorshop in the 60s, this story could have had some interesting possibilities. No question, there was a marked difference between Newmar's affection toward Batman as opposed to Eartha Kitt's Catwoman, who despised the Caped Crusader.

It's up to Robin to save Batman AND Batman to save Robin -- replete with well staged chase scenes, borrowed from all those camp movie serials of the 30s and 40s. Catch the clever one liners, thrown in for good fun. And is this REALLY the end of Catwoman? The great ocean plunge scene!

By popular demand, Lesley Gore returns as Pussycat, looking beautiful, and sings a second song from her top-rated "California Nights" LP. The Top 20 song got some airplay (although edited) on the previous episode. Also popular character actor J. Pat O'Malley returns as Pat Pending and veteran actor Allen Jenkins has a bit as Little Al. Jenkins was one of the all time great supporting actors in movie history, cast in the classic Bogey, Cagney and Eddie G gangster flicks at Warner Brothers in the 30s.

Not to be missed, especially for music and film buffs. SEASON 2 EPISODE 41 remastered color/ABC.
