Warning: Spoilers
I've loved this show for a long time now and it's one that I keep returning to so it's not like the ending is so bad that it ruins the show (cough cough GOT). However the way this show ends is such a let down especially since the final episode was shaping up as a great one...

Most of the episode is him recalling the previous few days whilst considering suicide and apart from the glaring absense of Cuddy, these scenes are just fantastic. That House is a depressed person, who has considered suicide, is no surprise to the audience despite it never being explored in depth before in the show. These scenes are such a testament to how well the writers know House as he goes back and forth with old cast members, always providing his unique perspective even in his desperate situation.

It is gut-wrenching when House picks up his hypothetical child and says "this is a reason to die" and yet it fits so perfectly with his character. And whilst it was great to see all the old cast members back I particularly loved Cameron's scenes, if there was going to be anyone to emotionally confront House it was going to be her. There's plenty more from these scenes I could get into as well, it's really top notch.

But then you can pin point the moment the show goes south, with the words "but I can change". Firstly, this seems out of character but i'm willing to roll with it since he's desperate. The real issue however is that we go from a very smart and mature episode to something that I can only describe as silly and a bit cheesy.

House as a show has always been a lot smarter and more cynical than your average TV show. It seems they abandon this in it's ending, the explanation for how House escapes is just so farfetched. The "faking your death" idea is cliche and boring (sorry I don't care that it's a homage to Sherlock Holmes). Even as the funeral is emotionally strong they undercut it with dumb humour. All things considered it's a pretty happy ending for everyone and for a show like House that's disappointing for me. There's plenty of dreck out there if you want an ending like that and I expected better from this fine show.

I know I'm in the minority about this but I thought I'd share my thoughts, I'm sure at least some of you agree with how I feel.
