What Walt's Watching
24 January 2024
Cast your mind back to the 1977 Peter Sellers comedy "Being There".

"Fool's Paradise" is a modern 2023 take on the premise of an idiot savant whose life is just one happy and some not so happy accidents/incidents one after another over which he has no control.

Charlie Day creator of the highly original and hugely successful "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" TV Series (which had a run of over a decade) Directed, Wrote and Stars as the lead "Latte Pronto".

He's released from a mental health facility because sadly the Government won't fund his treatment.

Fortunately for "Latte" he's a dead ringer for method actor "Sir Tom Bingsley" who dies in a similar way to INXS Michael Hutchense.

Ken Jeong in one of his least annoying roles as publicist "Lenny" helps "Latte" become a big Hollywood star.

"Fool's Paradise" is a comment on fame, power and money through the eyes of a harmless, simpleton.

"Latte" is surrounded by sycophantic enablers, co-stars, action heroes, mad British directors and powerful people in cinema and politics.

Even the Illuminati get the sharp sword of Charlie's pen.

The line up of Hollywood celebrities is nothing short of impressive including: the late Ray Liotta, Kate Beckinsale, Jason Sudekis, Eddie Falco, Jason Bateman and Common.

Fun Fact: "Latte" only speaks four words in this entire 98 minute movie. And they are the most important words any human ever wants to hear from a fellow friend.

Picture a short, bearded "Kramer" from "Seinfeld who's mostly mute and you've got this quirky character "Latte Pronto".

It's not a laugh out loud comedy, but it will make you think maybe words are overrated and true friendship is what makes you rich.

Streaming on Prime Video.

Rated M for some nudity and language.
