I was glad to see Chuck Connors escape at the end of The Birdmen because as leader of the Escape Committee, he was too one dimensional in his escape plans.
I would have said to him, "Come on, Chuck, the whole tunnel thing has been done to death! It's predictable. Let's bounce some ideas around and see if we can't come up with something fresh." My first thought upon seeing Richard Basehart would be to build a submarine to escape. Another idea I had was to have the prisoners switch from playing baseball to forming a competitive pole vaulting team.
I thought building a glider was a good idea (way to go Doug McClure) other than those things are tough to land. We never did see Chuck land the thing at the end. I hope he didn't crash it into the Matterhorn.
