This is probably sacrilegious for many but in my opinion this movie is good. Not great.
I rated it a 7 out of 10 and I stand by that.
Some call it the best sports movie ever but for me it's just not in that rarified air. Rocky and Rudy and Eight Men Out are all better films.
For me the biggest issue is that Coach Norman Dale (played by the ever reliable Gene Hackman) emphasizes how important team is but the Hickory Huskers are going no where until Jimmy Chitwood returns to the roster. Dale even wants someone else to take the last shot in the finals but he's overruled by his own team and agrees to let Chitwood take it.
So is team important or is one superstar important? This movie seems to be confused by that question.
Like I said, it's an enjoyable movie. I just don't think it's as awesome and I know some of you do.
