"Shell Game" is not an entirely unsatisfactory watching experience. It's a professionally made movie with decent performances, adequate production values and an intelligible plot. However, the premise does take a great big suspension of disbelief. In "Shell Game", a lovable rogue with criminal contacts springs to the aid of an elderly lady in trouble. In order to help her - and in order to best the villain at the same time - he and his friends organize an elaborate sting operation. And why ? Because our lovable rogue can't bear to see injustice, that's why !

So this is a premise that takes some swallowing, given that miscreants like fraudsters and scammers are not known for their finely-tuned consciences. Neither are they known for their Sir Galahad-like chivalry.

According to the good people at imdb, "Shell Game" was the pilot for a series that failed to materialize. I can well believe that, since that's exactly what it looks like.
