Men Need Women
11 December 2023
Paul Kelly is the District Attorney five and a half days a week. Saturday afternoons are for his son, Douglas Croft, for doing guy things. Kelly buys the boy a rifle and they hope to argue his mother into it later, but she's not there when they get home. She's left both of them. The two men take it hard for a while, but Croft realizes his father needs a wife, and invites a bunch over. His schoolteacher, Fay Wray, shows up to discuss the boy. Things are improving..... but then Kelly has a Grand Jury go after a racketeer. When they're about to return a true bill, he discovers his ex-wife married the bad guy the day after the divorce came through.

It's a fairly high-speed little Columbia second feature, and there's a good supporting cast, including Doe Beddoe as an itinerant philosopher and Marietta Canty as the housekeeper. Mostly it's carried on the simple line readings that Kelly offers, and Miss Wray's charms. It would be the last screen appearance she made for more than a dozen years.
