Clone High (2002–2003)
7/10

I first watched this online 10 years ago because of the title and the concept.

I suppose I didn't really appreciate it then but I re-watched upon learning of the revival and I will say that it deserves its cult following.

It's so much fun to imagine the show this could have been if we were really supposed to take it seriously. As a pastiche of teen-dramas, it is a delight to watch something so serious in story be so absurd in delivery and it totally works.

They know their way around a joke so it has aged very well. It feels quite contemporary in fact except that the animation is sort of retro maybe.

Joan is a sort of Daria clone (no pun intended) but that's sort of the point. Her one sided infatuation with Abe is charming and doesn't get old. Ghandi is super and the historical figures of the main cast really have little to do with it in practice.

They keep things moving with tons of jokes about the rest of the school acting (or meeting fates similar too) those they were cloned from while our main cast have different personalities. Well JFK and Cleo I guess are sort of nuanced in that way. But it's fun.

All this juxtaposed with the real menace of the principle and the shadowy directors makes this a very well rounded show that is more quality than quantity.

I didn't like it when Joan kicks JFK in the face just for asking if she were drunk enough to sleep with him but he was kind of obnoxious anyway.
