Could have been so much more...
16 November 2023
I had never heard about this 2016 movie, prior to stumbling upon it by random chance while looking through the movies on Netflix. Nor had I read the novel upon which the movie was based, so I didn't really know what I was in for. But the movie's synopsis sounded interesting, and the fact that the movie was starring Paul Rudd certainly appealed to me.

However, writers Rob Burnett and Jonathan Evison delivered a script and storyline that was somewhat stale and mundane. The script didn't really impress me, yet I did manage to sit through the entire 97 minutes that the movie ran for. However, I was only mildly entertained by what director Rob Burnett delivered. And truth be told, this is not a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time, as the script has zero replay value to it.

The cast ensemble in "The Fundamentals of Caring" was good. Of course you know what you get with Paul Rudd in the lead. The acting performances in the movie were good.

Ultimately then I have to say that "The Fundamentals of Caring" felt like a massively squandered opportunity of a great movie. There was so much potential readily available here for turning it into a memorable, enjoyable and outstanding movie, but that was just not the case.

The script and storyline was just too slow paced and uneventful, and that made the overall movie feel less interesting to sit through. In fact, the sensation that I was left with once the movie ended, was a feel of the movie being rather generic.

My rating of "The Fundamentals of Caring" lands on a bland five out of ten stars.
