Encino Man (1992)

Encino man, a film of its time

Warning: Spoilers
Encino man is a very good film it comes from a great concept. "What if a cave man just going about his business were to somehow end up in modern day America?" This is a great comedic premise which evolves wonderfully with Brendan Fraser in the title roll(actually the man character is named Links) I'll be quite honest here as a kid I watched this probably watched this a dozen or more times then being a prehistoric interested child I only watched because of the caveman I didn't get the humorist side of it as an adult though returning to the movie I still find it very good not just the caveman stuff because that is just some of the comedy but all of it. From beginning to end it is good. All of the actors are able to say they brought a lot to the table everyone having there comedy moments ( those actors are Brendan Fraser, pauly shore, Megan ward, robin tunney, Dave Morgan ) However, we have to face the facts that's it's an early 1990s movie so there are some things in it we wouldn't necessarily see as good now for example a scene in which Links speaks Spanish to an Hispanic gang this is hilarious the way it is done but may not pass muster in our current climate. Also some of the effects are a tad shakey however as I have said in the name of this review it is a movie of its time if we are going to go through every film made before 2010 and see if it's politically correct for now if it's special effects and costuming hair and makeup where would we stop? End of the day it is a good film that young and old can enjoy its very funny and I happily recommend it to anyone.
