7/10
An absolute must see within the Western genre
27 September 2023
I recently watched the classic Adios, Sabata (1970), starring Yul Brynner, on Tubi. The storyline revolves around Sabata, who is hired to steal a wagon loaded with gold, only to find out that the gold's not where it was supposed to be. Sabata and his gang of outlaws embark on a mission to track down whoever beat them to the gold and successfully steal it this time.

Directed by Gianfranco Parolini (We Are Angels), the film features a cast including Yul Brynner (Westworld), Dean Reed (Twenty Paces to Death), Ignazio Spalla (Sabata), Nieves Navarro (Death Walks on High Heels) and Sal Borgese (...if you meet Sartana, Pray for your Death).

Adios, Sabata is a delightful addition to the Western genre. The settings, costumes, and props are all spot-on, and the characters are easy to root for. Yul Brynner exudes coolness, charisma, and makes for a fantastic hero. The storyline is lighthearted, filled with fun circumstances, and features entertaining action scenes, even if some are a bit over the top and not entirely realistic. The flamenco dance scenes are the highlight of the movie.

In conclusion, Adios, Sabata an absolute must see within the Western genre. I would give it a 7/10 rating and strongly recommend it.
