From the beginning the viewer can understand that the character development would be deeper than one would have imagined for a movie of this genre. Her demons of the past were obvious 5 minutes into the movie.
In that sense I think that her journey was somewhat predictable as we all knew that she had done something terrible to her friend and the purpose of the movie stracture would be for her to have catharsis.
All in all, it was a journey of confronting her demons, fighting them, winning them but never seem to find closure as they kept coming for her. It was only after self acceptance and self forgiveness that she was able to move on and socialize again.
You can either see it as a huge allegory from start to finish or as an actual alien invasion. Either way the result is the same. Good movie, good pacing, amazing leading performance but somewhat weak third act due to the lack of dialogue.
