Final film in the trilogy

Tiger Cage 3 is the last movie in a series of 3 gritty cop/action flicks by renowned director/action choreographer Yuen Woo Ping. I did find this movie to be enjoyable mainly for the action. As a movie, it has many flaws. I appreciate that this installment goes back to the dark tone of the first film. However, story wise and acting wise, it pretty weak in comparison. Sharla Cheung is gorgeous, but plays a very unlikable character. The male lead is a guy who I have never seen before and lacks the charisma and screen presence to knock this out of the park. The guy has some great fighting skills (or is made to look like a master by Yuen Woo Ping), but is not worth mentioning if you compare him to Donnie Yen. The film is mostly a humorless affair and Michael Wong does little with his clumsy acting and unlikable character to make audiences sympathetic. Even with a weak story and unlikable characters the movie moves along quickly with some absolutely outstanding fights scenes and shootouts that are very bloody and unrelenting. So if you are a action fan, the series is definitely worth a look. But as a movie, only the first one is outstanding and really well done in my opinion.
