Batman: The Ring of Wax (1966)

BATMAN AND ROBIN AS HUMAN CANDLES????
13 August 2023
This was an exceptionally written episode, and rather ingenious as the giggling Riddler (Frank Gorshen) is into wax? The wax statues in the Gotham Museum seem contain a valuable solvent --which could be used in his nafarious deeds. Interesting stuff, and a neat idea to play off of when you come down to it.

The Riddler steals this show, as usual, fascinating to watch he and his henchmen plan their next big caper. Linda Gaye Scott plays his pretty blonde sidekick, called Moth. A few years earlier Scott made music headlines as the poster girl on Jan and Dean's LP, "Jan and Dean take Linda Surfing." This lead to many tv appearances, including a two part episode on THE GREEN HORNET.

Also look for big guy Joe E. Tata in an early role as Tallow. He later played a variety of parts on LOST IN SPACE, of course gaining fame as the owner of the diner on 90210.

Best comes at the end as the Riddler strings up Batman and Robin and is about to dip them in candle wax?? OMG. Another fast and furious episode, and the ending comes too soon. Directed by Oscar nominee James B. Clark, who originally was an editor, and went on to direct 15 BATMAN episodes.

RECOMMENDED. Season 1 Episode 23 restored dvd box set.
