Duck Amuck (1953)

What a way to run a railroad.

'Duck Amuck (1953)' starts out as a Musketeers-esque adventure before quickly (and I do mean very quickly) pivoting to go in an entirely different, certifiably meta direction. It's hard to talk about it without spoiling its central hook (and its debatable as to whether it's even a spoiler at all), but it's safe to say that this is an imaginative and distinct animated short film that plays takes the typical Looney Tunes formula of having Daffy Duck get humiliated for seven minutes and applies a whole new approach to it. It's always oddly delightful seeing Daffy get more and more exacerbated, and this time there's also an element of existential dread underlying the whole thing. Ultimately, this is a highly inventive effort with plenty of enjoyable sight gags and a killer final reveal. Although going in blind isn't essential, you may enjoy it even more if you watch it without knowing anything about it beforehand.
