Review of Joy Ride

Joy Ride (2023)
6/10
The Devil's Anus?
2 July 2023
Got some really good laughs in the beginning but not so much in the end. As Everything Everywhere All At Once wins the big lot in the past Oscar, a barrage amount of movies and tv series focusing American Chinese/Asians blossom. Joy Ride takes it to the comical extreme, utilizing out-of-context dialogues, overly exaggerated movements, and classic Asian comedy, which had me rocking back and forth in my chair to hold my laughs and tears. However, the last hour of the story is basically the essence of a mediocre soap opera, as the film becomes nothing more valuable than its jokes. Another thing to be complimented is how the movie accurate captures the struggle of Asian Americans, feeling expected, excluded, or desexualized. In all, comedy is the main course for this one, and everything else is pretty weak.
