*Review after Season 1*
Let me try my best to tell you how this show is. I rated it 9/10. That should tell you that I thought it was great. But it's a bit more complicated than that.
Look, the 90-minute long 1st episode was a masterpiece. It was just perfect. I've already reviewed the episode individually. But if you're going to expect a mystery/thriller afterwards, you're going to be disappointed. The mystery plotline is very slow. It's probably going to be addressed just a little here and there. But if you understand what the author is trying to do with this story, you'll have a great time afterwards as well. Not as brilliant as the 1st episode though. But that's unfair of me to say because, like I said, that 1st episode was a MASTERPIECE.
What this show is though, is a very character-based drama about the entertainment industry. You can see the author channeling his feelings regarding the hardships that people have to go through in this industry. And I liked seeing how he did it. The studio Doga Kobo adapted it with so much heart and soul. This is easily one of the best manga-to-anime adaptations in recent years. The animation is absolutely gorgeous, the character designs are unbelievable, even the direction is perfect.
I said a while back that I'm surprised to see this story from Aka Akasaka, Love is War's writer. I'm not anymore though. This is what he does. He makes very deep characters that appear very complex. He shows a lot of drama. You might not completely understand these characters until multiple seasons end. And he's great at this. The character depth and build-ups are really great here. Ai, Kana, Aqua, Ruby, Akane, all these characters are portrayed brilliantly.
That being said, there's some drama that I didn't like. There's a love triangle that forms between 3 characters. I don't know what's the point of it. Aqua's character was just a bit unlikeable. But he probably has a lot more depth and he's being set up for the future arcs.
Overall this is a great show and I'm looking forward to season 2. But you should know what to expect from this show in order to enjoy it.
