A fair end to the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy
19 June 2023
The whole Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy is a fun adventure from start to finish. We've come to know and love our growing list of guardians in the strange worlds they've visited throughout the last 9 years. Some regard this one as the best. I disagree. In my opinion, the original from 2014 was the best, but that doesn't discount the sequels. All 3 are terrific motion pictures with plenty of emotion & humor, nostalgia and comradery.

This one begins with the adorable yet feisty Rocket Raccoon being greviously wounded and while he remains in respite, his past is slowly revealed in a series of flashbacks. At the same time, the perverse mind behind his surgeries and mechanical augmentations is looking to create a new world, a perfect utopia which he has no reservations about violently and heartlessly ruining the lives of innocent animals to obtain. At the same time, Gamora returns but cannot remember her past with the guardians, and Star-Lord is questioning whether he should return to Earth after many years in space.

Being a stone hearted person, movies rarely make me shed tears. This one did. Volume 1 was fun all the way through, Volume 2 darn near cracked me in the end, but volume 3 of this series finally drew tears when Rocket Raccoon's dark, abhorrent rage in the first two movies is finally explained, stemming from when he was nothing more than a science experiment along with a small group of other animals.

Because of this, When the movie came out, Some people on the internet demanded a trigger warning be included in the beginning of the film, warning of the subject matter of animal abuse. So far no such disclaimer exists and I doubt it will. Animal abuse exists in real life and real life never comes with a trigger warning.

For the final piece of the trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 is a fair end to what has been a fun series of films. We may never get to hang out with the team again for a long while, but if you stayed put in the theatre to watch to the end credits, Star-Lord isn't through yet.
