I wish I had a boss like Mr. Ball.

Warning: Spoilers
When efficiency expert Anthony Hopkins shoes up in the town of Spotswood Australia to analyze a failing moccasin company, he discovers mich more than a failing company.he finds a community with heart and spirit and ethics, and that includes the boss, Mr. Ball (Alwyn Kurts). A conversation with him reveals a man struck by the loyalty of his staff, refusing to lay them off simply because he's going through hard times, recalling how they've stood by him in even worse times, and analyzing that people are much more important to him than profits, but unfortunately, loyalty doesn't pay the bills.

This sweet old man is sobbing internally when he has to make decisions he doesn't want to make, and you see in his eyes that sadness. But Hopkins learns a lesson too, and it's obvious that he hates the position he's been put in based on what he discovers about the community. This film surprised me, starting off weakly but building as I realized where it was going, and it was easy to change my feelings about it. Made before Hopkins went from respected actor to a big star, it will impress for its simple humanity and daffy characters as well for the dramatic change Hopkins goes through. Toni Collette makes an impression in an early role. Simple but beautiful, this is a Capra like movie that will touch the open hearted.
