Nobody is expecting realism from an ultraviolent b-movie. But it's really, really distracting when characters literally stand there staring dumbly until they're murdered in the most brutal ways possible.
"Hardened" police detectives don't ever draw their guns when groups of convicts - covered in blood and wielding knives and other instruments of torture - walk towards them. They literally do not raise a hand in resistance - they stand in the same spot and get stabbed or brained. It's absolutely bizarre.
There is even a scene where there are maybe 30 cops and convicts in an engine literally just stand around in plain sight while a monster slowly walks around and just starts squishing people's heads (and worse) right in front of them. The cops and cons watch their partners and friends get killed one by one and do nothing to intervene. They don't even try to run away or hide??
This movie had so much potential, but even as somebody who loves action, horror and ultraviolent b-movies, this was as boring as it gets.
