A Doll Makers Workshop Is Set Alight

Warning: Spoilers
One of the early and impressive shorts from Roman Polanski in his student years at film school. This was the beginning of his disturbing and captivating filmmaking style.

We open on the exterior of a doll makers shop in a quiet town then the camera moves into the interior where an array of dolls are eerily sitting on shelves. They star back at us in an almost frightening but comical sense as the doll maker repairs and fixes them.

Suddenly, a lamp is knocked over setting alight the workshop and slowly burning the dolls to a crisp. Over this, an unusual score greets us as the fire worsens. The fire itself isn't the threat, the dolls sitting there looking at the audience is chilling enough.

A simple yet effective short film.
