The show description says 'controlling man' do describe Patrick's character. But the more you watch you realize that he actually cares about his girlfriend a lot and his every attempt to make it work is challenged by her annoyance. She has a problem with everything about him...his brother, his job, the paint colour, family dinner, money (for Cello), and his trying his best.
Also, you can't paint him as a control freak when you pile his plate with problems in his every aspect.
That's actually a very modern problem, when a guy tries really hard to not loose everything thing and then tries fixing things to save relationships and work etc..he ends up as a controlling person.
Control freaks do exist but that's a whole different thing, certainly not what the show is trying to portray.
The cast is pretty decent and the whole call-a-number-and-pay to travel back is actually more believable and fun than those time machines and squeezing into a closet possibilities.
