Those mad, magnificent extraterrestrials.

Warning: Spoilers
This very '80s science fiction comedy is a madcap romp about a teenager's discovery that he's a descendant of an alien who made it with an Earthling, just one of many roaming the planet in big hair, including a wig with birds in a cage inside. Maybe not the greatest teen performance, but Nicholas Strouse is sweet and charming, thought of as weird but by his family, especially preparing for brother Timothy Patrick Murphy's wedding to Kellie Martin, the socialite daughter of snooty Martha Scott and one time presidential candidate Hugh O'Brien. Scott is absolutely outrageous, seen sitting on the toilet as Strouse walks in apparently in some sort of trance and pulls down his pants, seemingly prepared to do his business, and making her wonder what kind of family her daughter is marrying into. The arrival of the oddball couple of Adam West and Candice Azzara reveals all, as does Strouse's crush on rock star Andrea Thompson.

For some reason, legendary actors Maureen Stapleton and Roddy McDowell made one scene cameos in this movie, with Stapleton having one line selling helium balloons and McDoowall playing the priest at the wedding. The film is sweet in many ways but feisty at the same time, and while it does go off on some oddball tangents, it's irresistible even though the ending just seems to come with a thud and made me rethink the ratings that I was going to give it. It's very much a piece of entertainment of its time, definitely a curiosity and frequently camp. For me, seeing Scott, having started off so sweet in many now highly regarded classics and play all these hideous matrons later on made her fun to watch as she seems to be enjoying stepping on her early good girl reputation. However, much of the veteran cast gets little of substance to do although West is having a ball with his campy performance as the head of the extra terrestrial cult trying to gather all of the descendants together.
