Mr. Krueger's Christmas (1980 TV Movie)
5/10
What a drag it is being old.

"Mr. Krueger's Christmas" is a Christmas special that was produced by the Mormon Church. Amazingly, they were able to secure Jimmy Stewart for the title character. And, if you are interested in seeing it, it's now on YouTube.

The film doesn't have a lot of story...and it's only a half hour long. Mr. Krueger (Stewart) is a lonely old widower who seems to have no friends or family. So, during the Christmas season, he daydreams a lot...about friends, directing the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, celebrating Christmas and meeting the baby Jesus. However, he's quite alone and his only friend is his cat. Even the carolers who come by seem to feel awkward about being there and beat a hasty retreat from the old man's meager apartment.

I guess the point of this film might be that we should take care of our elderly and forgotten. But it's also incredibly depressing to watch instead of being heartwarming....though by the end it did improve considerably. You might like it...I just felt disappointed and depressed as I watched despite Stewart's fine acting and the happy ending.
