Quite Implausible but Still Rather Funny
16 December 2022
This film essentially begins with a young waitress by the name of "Gertrude 'Trudie' Chandler" (Melissa Joan Hart) being dumped by her boyfriend "Nick" (Benjamin Ayres) just before a family Christmas event out in the country. Trouble by feelings of inadequacy and worried that she will be a big disappointment to her parents if she doesn't bring him, she kidnaps a customer named "David Martin" (Mario Lopez) at gunpoint and forces him to go with her to her parent's countryside hunting lodge instead. Needless to say, upon arriving at the lodge, David immediately tries to convince Trudie's family into believing that he's being held against his will, but his story sounds so fantastic that everyone thinks he's joking. And the more he tries to convince them, the more humorous the joke becomes. Now, rather than reveal any more, I will just say that, as ridiculous as this plot may seem, it actually turned out to be quite funny. Admittedly, it isn't the best Christmas comedy ever made, but it still has its moments and I have rated it accordingly. Slightly above average.
