Batman: Catwoman Goes to College (1967)
Season 2, Episode 49

CATWOMAN GOING FOR A PHD?
4 December 2022
Over the top writing, as usual, by series writer Stanley Ralph Ross. Julie Newmar's slinking, devious Catwoman has Bruce Wayne to thank as her new parole officer. Conditions of her prison release rest on a promise she go to college -- none other than Gotham State University. Her goal: to become a fine, upstanding student? For two seconds?

Character actor Paul Mantee is fun to watch, playing one of the Catwoman's henchmen who dresses up as Batman to confuse the cops. Look for Stanley Adams (who always reminded me of Fred Flintstone for some reason) playing a cop called Captain Courageous, always bugging Commissioner Gordon. Nice gag appearance by veteran game show host Art Linkletter, popping out a window while Batman and Robin climb the side of a building. All those goofy guest star window bits were one of the most creative and camp parts of the show, later improved by LAUGH IN.

Great set and color design in the 60s malt shop, where Catwoman and Batman are sipping shakes? Watch Julie Newmar in this particular scene, she's funny. On the other wild side, Catwoman still has to settle a score with the Dynamic Duo, knocks them out with a spray of her hynotic perfume and ties Batman and Robin up in a GIANT tea cup, waiting for a GIANT tea pot to pour boiling water on their heads. The tea pot set is a work of art.

10 Stars.

No surprise writer Stanley Ralph Ross went on to create tv's WONDER WOMAN. Ross wrote 27 episodes for BATMAN. Super direction from one of the best, Robert Sparr, also director for the WILD WILD WEST and behind some of the classic episodes of HAWAIIN EYE and 77 SUNSET STRIP. He is missed, having died in a plane crash a few years later.

Best of SEASON 2. Remastered color box sets, Vol.1 and 2. 4 dvds each. Released 2015.
