Antonio Banderas, Steve Buscemi, Salma Hayek, Quentin Tarantion, Cheech Marin and Robert Rodriguez. A brilliant combination of actors and writer/director has Antonio Banderas' mysterious guitar-carrying loner out for revenge against a crime lord - with a nice twist, mind you.
All the bloody action (and there is plenty of it; some absolutely stunning if improbable gun fights pop off the screen) is set south of the border in Mexico.
Banderas is brilliantly-cast as a brooding longer on the hunt and leaving a very large trail of dead bodies behind him. The gorgeous Salma Hayek plays his love interest in what I guess was one of her first ever roles, the movie from 1995, and I loved Buscemi's contribution as well.
I remember watching this one on TV back in the day when I definitely wasn't old enough, stunned by how much "cool" Rodriguez managed to pack into this film. Watching twenty-plus years later, it's still cool.
