Review of Somewhere Boy

There is no way that a boy growing to manhood could possibly be kept in a house as depicted here, unless actually imprisoned. He would yearn to look around outside, no matter what his father told him about there being nobody else out there and the monsters! He would surely find ways whilst his father was frequently absent - "hunting said monsters" - of getting outside and covering a good bit of ground in a foray of discovery. He could not possibly then have failed to see other buildings, vehicles and people and understood that the father was lying. This would lead to much further conflict between the two as he realised the enormity of the lies.

Ultimately with the foundational premise of the entire story discredited it all becomes merely a silly fantasy and as such quite worthless.
