Peter Greenaway has made a true masterpiece, astonishing and carefully crafted in every aspect. It transports and overwhelms in a surreal grotesque world endowed with a unique visual personality, overflowing and baroque. Starting with a simple plot, the director is able to create a microcosm open to countless readings and interpretations, charged with symbolism. Helen Mirren, together with the rest of the cast, does a perfect job. All the surrounds are extraordinary, the set design, the music that accompanies the entire film, the costume design by Jean-Paul Gaultier, and the food preparation by chef Giorgio Locatelli. The film is funny, grotesque, disturbing, an absolutely wonderful and unique piece of art.
