6/10
This may take some time to digest (sorry)

It's rare that I'm this torn on what to rate a film. I have such mixed emotions about 'The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover'. For the first 90 minutes I hated every minute of it. Then the last act came along and it was a mini-masterpiece. And was the point early on (probably for the duration of the film to be fair) that I was supposed to hate it? I'm stumped.

Even when I was hating it I was noticing things I liked about it. The music is terrific and it is one of the most visually unique films I have ever seen. I also love films that have more or less no boundaries and will show anything and everything.

This is one of those movies that will have you questioning your life, wondering how you've come to the point where you are sitting in front of a screen watching the things that are happening in front of you. There's good, there's terrible, there's bizarre & there's disgusting. This film has it all and more. 6/10.
