Needs A Remake
15 June 2022
This film is so ripe for a remake.

It's a ripping adventure story that needs a better execution.

The story plods along too slowly, and it is dated and naive in many areas, such as in its treatment of the spy subplot, and interrogation sequence, and in the speeches about killing.

However it does have merit in its physical locations, and in the characters and performances of Anthony Quinn and Irene Papas.

Gregory Peck also provides his usual sturdy reliable performance.

Unfortunately David Niven's character is irritating, and Gia Scala is just terrible.

I loved this film as a child, but time and maturity has not been its friend.
