This episode was not so much trek but put me in mind of a babylon 5 episode which also involved a procedure on a child. Like this one there were no easy answers and the outcome was going to leave someone in the story unhappy. I found it sad and insightful. Not common traits for a series that leans toward the humour we are used to.
