Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) is a movie in my DVD collection that I recently watched again on Tubi. The storyline follows an orphaned young lady who is taken in and trained by an uneducated witch. She matures into a thief and steals the sword of a trusting martial artist master. As she flees she runs into a love interest that only muddles her motives.

This movie is directed by Ang Lee (Lust, Caution) and stars Chow Yun-Fat (Replacement Killers), Ziyi Zhang (Memoirs of a Geisha), Michelle Yeoh (Tomorrow Never Dies), Chang Chen (Happy Together), Pei-Pei Cheng (Mulan) and Sihung Lung (The Wedding Banquet).

The storyline for this is very intricate and complex with very well developed characters and various sub plots within the primary storyline. The cinematography is absolutely stunning and the martial arts scenes are fun despite the overuse of wires. Every fight scene with Yeoh and Zhang is absolutely amazing and Jade Fox was a tremendous character. The dialogue was very written and the storyline is well paced and unfolds perfectly. The ending is triumphant and sad at the same time.

Overall this is a very well executed movie that is the definition of art. I would score this a 9/10 and strongly recommend it.
