River (2015)

Well acted and intriguing on many levels, yet...

Kind of a very serious "Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)", this show is well acted and has a convoluted and involving plot line. Yet the main premise that the lead character's severe mental illness, confounding, muddling and sometimes helpful, is sustainable in his work role is simply very difficult to believe. If you can put that aside, it does stand as an original and brave effort to subvert the usual police procedural stereotype. It doesn't work for me overall, but I enjoyed finding that out over the course of the season. Worth watching.
