Young Life in Time of War
15 February 2022
Here's another story about Beirut during the civil war of 1975. But the point of view is that of young Muslim Tarek who experiences the beginnings of a protracted civil strife. Through his eyes, we see see how the situation worsens. But despite the growing tension and loss of life, Tarek manages to find a way to maintain his balance, his hubris if you may, and have his version of fun under those circumstances until tragedy strikes home.

True. The film is funny in many parts like the interactions of the matronly neighbor with the owner of a pesky rooster, and Omar's antics. It's also heartwarming particularly Tarek's relationship with his father Riad.

Rami Doueiri is able to relate with the viewer how he deals with his situation effectively. Mohamad Chamas (Omar) ably portrays the role of a best friend.

Watch this film to be reminded that the youth are war's helpless victims.
