Fletch Lives (1989)
7/10
A bit of fun, but ham-acted by Chase
17 January 2022
The FLETCH character was invented by an author who penned a series of decent books about the guy (see trivia for details), but Chase chose to have a new script penned. Too bad, since there were at least 8 other stories for Chevy to make, if he had simply taken the smart course (it's not like there were dozens of other film options waiting for him).

This one is just 'over-the-top'-and ended the Fletch character once and for all. Although funny in places, it is played in a ridiculous manner. To compare, the THIN MAN series in the 30's, 40's spawned 8 films and made William Powell, as the hard-boiled but suave private detective, a lot of money for himself AND the studio. Those stories could be whimsical, but the lead character (Nick, played by Powell) was endlessly watchable. Chevy's Fletch is like 5 helpings of cherry pie. You never want to see it again. 7/10.
