At least it's short

At 72 minutes, it has the merit of being short. A couple of good performances: Florence Bates is terrific as the mother, Conrad Janis does well as her worthless son. George Montgomery is the WORST Marlowe imaginable, just totally wrong for the part. There's some success in creating a noir mood. Most of Chandler's minor characters have disappeared from the film version.
