The man didn't know his powers about his super strong electromagnetic field. He killed the people in the elevator, injured his boss and killed his mother. He acquired this power in a test conducted by a demented scientist. Walter spotted where they were keeping him by using the pigeons in a Tesla bobbin. He taught the birds the electromagnetic field of the man and he retrieved that electromagnetic pattern from a cassette tape the man had. And then they found him and the happy ending. Also Olivia is seeing visions of John. He led her to his lair where he did his own investigation. Their subconscious are in contact since she got into the tank and they keep the man alive to learn from him.
