The first talk show I ever remember was Donahue. My mom used to watch that which meant I had to watch. It was decent for the most part. Then the 90's came and with it a plethora of talk shows. They were pretty much the reality TV shows of the 90's. With so many talk shows out there you had to do something to stand out. Jerry Springer found that something and it was despicable. He found that if people are changing channels and they hear yelling they'll stop. And so "The Jerry Springer Show" as we now know it was born. He sought out the worst of humankind who would sell their dignity for $500 and a ticket to wherever he was. I never saw the show except I felt like I needed to take a shower. Jerry, his guests, and his audience made me physically ill. I pined for the day he was cancelled because his guests shed too much blood. Lo! That day never came.
