Too silly and dated for my taste
25 October 2021
In a set-up that's so hilariously dated it can only be found in the silver screen, a group of married couples find out the worst news in the world: they're not actually married. Oh no! This movie is a comedy, of course, but it's still incredibly silly by today's standards. You should only really rent it if you're aware of 1950s social views.

The couples are Fred Allen and Ginger Rogers, David Wayne and Marilyn Monroe, Paul Douglas and Eve Arden, Eddie Bracken and Mitzi Gaynor, and Louis Calhern and Zsa Zsa Gabor. James Gleason, Paul Stewart, Jane Darwell, and Victor Moore make up the supporting cast. Victor plays the minister without legality, and while he's very apologetic, the couples' lives are thrown for a loop with the news. Marilyn has just won a beauty contest specifically for married women, Ginger and Fred have a public image as a happily married couple, and Mitzi's pregnant! What is everyone going to do?

Really, this movie is pretty silly, but I would hope that anyone renting it would be expecting that. I didn't end up liking it because it was a little too "cookie-cutter" for my taste, and I think the premise could have lent itself to a far more interesting drama.
