Lovely Anna Lee is ensnared in an insane asylum by cynical, cruel Boris Karloff, but this promising opening yields only a tepid payoff. Compare it to sterner stuff, like "Island of Lost Souls" or "The Black Cat." Fact is duller than fiction.
