Say hello to the jealous green eyed monster

Warning: Spoilers
In this episode a close friend of the Taylor family, Gloria (Jan Shutan), breaks up with her boyfriend and decides to visit the Taylors to breathe some emotional 'fresh air'. Aunt Bea asks Andy not to bring up the relationship during her visit. Unfortunately, Aunt Bea wastes little time in offering comfort to Gloria when she welcomes her. And Gloria doesn't help when she innocently flirts with Andy in the courthouse to the dismay of Helen.

The writers chose to give Helen (Aneta Corsaut) a streak of jealousy that was rather annoying but necessary. And of all the lovely ladies Andy either courted or flirted with the writer's stayed with Crump who couldn't cook and was quick to anger. However, Andy Griffith remains one of my favorite series because of characters like Helen. A little bit of jealously goes a long way and adds some spice to the soup.

Speaking of jealousy, I especially liked the episodes with the "The Fun Girls". The two ladies, from Mt Pilot, were high spirited and went ga ga over Taylor and Deputy Fife. When the "The Fun Girls were caught in the arms of Sheriff and Deputy and Fife it caused Helen and Thelma Lou to get their feathers ruffled and feel threatened. Gloria, on the other hand, is visiting the Taylor house following a break with her boyfriend and becomes an innocent bystander who enjoys the attention Taylor gives her in an attempt to make her feel welcomed. All Helen sees is how pretty she is and the attention Taylor gives her.

Helen struggles with self-esteem issues and Gloria appreciates the attention Taylor offers. That attention is enough to stir Helen. We see Helen behaving like a jealous lover and Taylor not liking it. I liked how the jealous green-eyed monster raised its ugly head.
