Great nostalgia, poor development

Warning: Spoilers
As a die hard star wars fan, I was ecstatic about this show and badly wanted to love every minute of it. And although they had some fantastic moments, I felt that the show lacked good plot and character development.

What I liked: Easter Eggs, nostalgia, and cameos. Although I was not big on the video games, the writers clearly made a big effort to bring in planets/locations and music relevant to star wars legends.

My favorite episodes included appearances from previous and future characters. The writers did a great job of including these characters in a way to further develop their characters without disrupting any timelines.

-New Era of star wars Despite the long history of star wars, there has always been a gap in the cinematic and canon story. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the process of the empire take over, and how they transitioned from clones to TK Troopers. This was a process that, again, the writers did an excellent job of including in a way that adds depth to the story, but without disrupting any stories or timelines.

What I disliked: Poor development Most episodes seemed to have quickly developing stories that were jam packed with action, leaving too little time to develop more than one or two characters. Rather than developing a group, or batch, of characters they largely focused on just Omega and Hunter, leaving other lead characters as an after thought.

I'm addition to poor character development, there was a lack of cohesiveness between episodes. It gave me the sense that many episodes could be entirely removed or scrambled up, and wouldn't ultimately have any change any of the outcome.

-lacked suspense An overwhelming frustration of mine was the degree of immunity that main characters had. Despite many action packed episodes, there was never any sense that characters were in danger, and I knew every time that the characters would escape or complete their objective. I understand that it is an animated show, but at times it became unbearable to watch (example: one character falls off a mountain and gets up unharmed).

Overall The show had some really amazing cameos, Easter eggs, and nostalgia that worked really well from a big picture and timeline stand point. However, it relied too heavily on the nostalgia and Easter eggs to cover up the poor development.

What i would like to see next season: -2-3 episode arc episodes with more focus on developing characters
  • at least one main character death, as I think this will add to the suspense of the show.
