The director really thought it was high art

Warning: Spoilers
Seriously, he's pretty sure every single other aspect of story telling can be ignored if it's all told through visuals and no dialogue. Unfortunately it doesn't work here and just comes off as clunky, trying too hard for something nobody asked for, and is unsure of itself. We don't even really know the basics because the director doesn't care about any of that - where is this set? What year? Why is any of this happening? Who are these characters inside? Why does this town operate this way? Does it even have police or some form of law and justice? What was the mom sick with? How old are the kids because they seem close to the same age at the start but then we cut to later and the sister is like 10 years older than the brother now somehow.

We don't know because the answer from the director to all of these is, 'I dunno...but there's no dialogue so that's neat right.' Sorry director but we need more than that to stay interested in something like this. Having no dialogue doesn't automatically make it a good movie for some reason, as we see here...
