Sideshow (2020)
7/10
You just have to watch this one...

I hadn't heard about writer and director Adam Oldroyd's 2021 movie titled "Sideshow" before having the opportunity to sit down to watch it. So I didn't know what I was in for here. But given movie's cover I figured it would be worth a watch, especially since the movie had both Les Dennis and Anthony Head on the cast list.

It should be noted, though, that "Sideshow" is not likely to be a movie that will have a wider appeal as being an easy-watch-movie. Why? Well, because the movie has a somewhat weird, if not actually odd and bizarre, storyline and is crammed with an abundance of dark, twisted humor. And it is exactly that which made the movie so glorious. So hats off to writer and director Adam Oldroyd for this accomplishment.

I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline, albeit it is likely to be perceived as slow paced and uneventful by some, I suppose. But the layers to the storyline and the rather interesting and well-detailed characters in the movie really made it work gloriously as the movie progressed and things escalated as you got further and further into the story.

And yeah, the movie definitely has a good ensemble of cast members, despite it mainly being just four people that the movie focus on; that being Les Dennis (playing Pendrick), Anthony Head (playing Gerald), April Pearson (playing Eva) and Nathan Clarke (playing Dom). I have to say that these four were superbly cast for the movie and they really portrayed the characters well and brought the characters to life in a very believable manner on the screen, breathing life and personality into these characters so well.

Not only were the characters in the movie very real and nicely portrayed, but the interaction between the characters and the dialogue really added to the overall enjoyment of the movie, and it definitely helped to flesh out the characters and situations and added a very enjoyable aspect to the storyline.

The subtle, yet dark comedy and humor that permeates everything that is "Sideshow" was something that really appealed to me, and it made the movie all the more enjoyable and memorable in my opinion. The comedy in the movie alone makes it more than well-worth taking the time to sit down to watch "Sideshow".

I found "Sideshow" to be a wonderful surprise of a movie experience, and it is definitely a movie that I can and will warmly recommend you take the time to sit down to watch, should you happen to get the chance. Just keep in mind that this is not your average run-of-the-mill standard type of comedy movie.

My rating of writer and director Adam Oldroyd's 2021 movie "Sideshow" lands on a most well-deserved seven out of ten stars. This movie was definitely a most welcomed surprise and a must-watch movie of 2021.
